Installing and upgrading the server – IBM Spectrum Protect Tsm
Hi friends in this blog i had shared my experience and small and short knowledge of IBM spectrum protect tsm upgradation activity for backup server. I know its travel blog but I wanted to shared my experience in my word with my buddies who work on ibm spectrum protect tsm.
This blogs side is marathi blog website. I have write before what is backup & Type Of Backup blog on this website. And its helpful for people who newly working in backup domains (Tivoli storage manager, IBM spectrum protect). I’m working on the ibm tivoli backup solution so which I get info or knowledge I think i have to shared with beginners.
We have upgraded tsm version 8.1.13.00 to v8.1.13.fix 100. Latest version of IBM spectrum protect tsm is 8.1.15 its release june 2022. First of all i will explain in short words so read this full spectrum protect tsm blog and if you like or any queries please comments below. this information is very short i knw but i think its helpful to new people which work on ibm tivoli backup solution.
Upgradation IBM spectrum protect tsm means what and why we are upgrade. IBM spectrum protect is software of ibm company and tsm means tivoli storage manager as same its backup software (data preserved) of servers and or any machine, its used in multinational IT companies and bank domains (data centers), why Installing and upgrading the server – IBM Spectrum Protect its for updated latest version for day to days works and all the thing.
IBM Spectrum Protect Plus is a data resilience solution that provides data protection, recovery, replication, and reuse for VMs, databases, applications, file systems, SaaS workloads, containers, and cloud environments.
What is the difference between IBM Spectrum Protect and spectrum protect plus? IBM Spectrum Protect Plus is used to restore the snapshots from vSnap to the original or alternate hypervisor. IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments is used to recover the snapshots from IBM Spectrum Protect server to the original or alternate hypervisor.
Why we upgrade IBM spectrum protect tsm server v8.1.13 to v8.1.13.100
After upgrade of ibm spectrum protect server v8.1.10 to v8.1.13 observed backup server getting hung and also hamper sta (lan free) backup we give command like q mount, q session, q path tsm, q drive, q stg, q drive.
We call log on ibm passport advantage with ibm team they suggested to upgrade v8.1.13 to ibm spectrum protect version 8.1.13.100. So we have planned for the same, and done the activity almost taking around 6 hrs.
Below some points which I knw for IBM Spectrum Protect upgrade and migration process activity:
Upgrade STA & BA clients for upgradation.
Take spectrum protect database backup (for rollback).
Take setup file critical files backup.
Side by side you can update Operation center 8.1.13.00 to 8.1.13.100.
Down backup service “Halt” command on tsm prompt
Check ps -ef| grep dsm (process)
After down all services
Run on tsm serv ./install for upgradation.
After completed installation
Start tsm services (dsmserv)
/opt/tivoli/tsm/St*/bin/dsmserv &
Disable session command on tsm prompt.
If required audit library you can do
For audit library
Or reboot tsm server
bootlist -m norm
al -o
Bootinfo -b
lsvg -l rootvg (sync)
Shutdown -Fr
errpt -c
Startup
Enable session
Start spectrum protect tsm server verify lan free backup and regular backup check drive are properly mounted for backups.
Note :- if IBM spectrum protected server version is 8.1.13.100 you must have to upgrade operation center 8.1.13.100 and STA also 8.1.13.100.
