Hello friends in this blog I’m sharing my experience about DCMC in tsm command failed. This blog post in my words please ignore if any spelling mistakes or words, I have share info with my TSM administrator beginner friends like me. Few day ago i had facing DSMC command failed issue while connecting client server to IBM spectrum protect tsm server, we had try many ways we had check every parameters, everything on client side and backup side, also search about that issue on internet or ibm side but not helped.
Sharing my experience DSMC command failed in TSM
I am sharing little bit knowledge which I have about tsm. I’m working on IBM Spectrum Protect Fix Pack v8.1.13.100, and we have install 8.1.11.0 tsm client for AIX server. In this blog which I facing issues and small errors also this dsmc (command hang) issue and how we troubleshoot for this issue, so all info I want to share with everyone who facing that same so that others can benefit from it. We had searched so many articles or tsm website sides for this issue but not satisfactory result we get.
That’s why I’m sharing this issue/problem and correct result so it helps to other who troubleshoot on the same and get solved dsmc issue early, already I have shared last blog how we migrate or update ibm spectrum protect server v8.1.13 to v8.1.13.100. That time I was not mention we have copy client files on client machine but due some aix client server does not have enough space on /temp for updated STA agent clients.
See DSMC command failed to connect with backup server it’s so many common reasons like we see on internet and do on daily backup administrator works, but this issue is new for us. Actually every tsm issue is not bigger the lost data or crash tsm. DSMC command failed many common reason ping client server, unable to open backup port, permission to files dsm.sys or dsm.opt, cert files, sessionsecurity and many more. We almost check all parameter of client aix server. Ok we have other aix client server connect with backup server thought dsmc command but some are not able to connect and showing IBM Spectrum protect session could not be reestablished.
We had almost 9 to 10 hrs troubleshoot on this issue, same issue showing connection failed in dsmerror. finally we had remove AIX client re-install client server after that start given all permission required files also tae copy of cert files and copy new files from tsm server and then we start dsmcad server it’s done also dsmadmc command work but DSMC command hang. Finally we raise ticket to IBM team for 1st severity IBM also support well and they also checked same time we troubleshoot from our side, IBM team 1streply for providing logs as usual for solving early. We provide all required logs to them the check and reply its communication kindly connect network team.
We contact with network team also we checked from the any network fluctuation with backup server from client server or anything. Almost we failed to resolve this and side by side IBM also support but that server was in production so we need to early resolve the issue 4-5 server affected any other server are worked. We think so many time our mind was stuck we had take help of everyone who work on IBM spectrum protect tsm. As we know every backup person are jab tak issue resolved nahi hoga tab tak try karege.
DSMC command failed we think so much why this happed we had check with AIX tem and hardisk failed or any issue from that side they check errpt but not showing anything. Finally one of AIX admin remember when we upgrade activity we h=don’t have space in /tmp so we have mounted nfs mount point on affected client servers, we have idea but not click due to this will dsmc command hang we are assuming dsmadmc command work but dsmc command not work so it’s complicated things.
When we had checked that affected server file system space with df command that time it goes hang mode had to do control +c the same. and basically we had df command that time showing all system mount point and it come on # hash prompt right but affect server not come on # hash prompt and it stuck. Nfs mount point mounted that’s why DF command and dsmc command not works properly. When we unmount –f mount point that time dsmc command work and client server connect with client server.
May be dsmc command check all aix file system parameters and then dsmc command executed. dsmc store in our default path like /usr/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin so if df command not work and it goes hang he try to connect server but its hang then dsmc command will not work and shows connection reestablish with backup server finally we solved it and now working fine all agents with backup servers. So friends if you stuck and facing same issue try to think why it’s happen as I said every tsm issue is not bigger the lost data or crash tsm. Before I had resolved so many issues but this was new for us and we try to resolved next level.
